Abstract
478,159. Roller mills. TEICHMANN, A. March 12, 1937, No. 7307. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 59] Wheat &c. is ground into flour in a roller mill having a pair of rollers, the speed of which may be varied in accordance with the grinding operation in progress, such as cracking, disintegrating, &c., the velocity ratio of the rollers being variable approximately from 1À3 to 1 : 10. As shown, the shaft 1 of the driven roller has a pulley 2 keyed thereon which drives a pulley 4 of a variable-speed gear 5, the drive pulley 7 of which drives a pulley 10 rotatably mounted by a sleeve 11 on the sleeve 9 of the pulley 2. A pinion 12 on the sleeve 11 drives a gear-wheel 13 mounted on the shaft of the slow running roller whereby the speed ratios may be varied between 1 : 3 and 1 : 10. Planet gear, conical-drum gear, stepped pulley gear, &c. may provide the change speed gear or the slow roll may be driven independently by a variable-speed motor. Two sets of mills may be used, each performing part of the process.
