Abstract

477,082. Automatic guns. VICKERS - ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and HIGSON, P. R. May 13, 1936, No. 32906/37. Divided out of 476,685. [Class 92 (ii)] An automatic gun, especially for use in tanks, comprises a mounting 12, a plurality of barrels revoluble within the mounting about the axis of a single gas cylinder 11, a gas piston in permanent connection with the breech mechanism in the breech - body 10, means for bringing any one barrel into the operating position, and means for locking the barrel in that position. The gun shown has two barrels 9 each of which carries a block 15 having a gas port 18 which registers with a cylinder port 17 only when that particular barrel is in the firing position. The blocks are held loosely together by an extension 11<2> of the gas cylinder. The barrels are carried by a block 13 spigoted on a projection 24 of the breech-body and gas cylinder. This block is provided with a handle for rotating the barrel assembly, and the handle is fitted with spring-urged catch adapted to engage in holes in the mounting for locking either barrel in the firing position. Each barrel projects rearwardly of the block and each projection 22 has teeth or projections 23 which engage with teeth or projections on the breech-body when a barrel is in the operative position.
