Abstract

476,377. Meshing screw engines. LEISTRITZ, P., and BURGHAUSER, F. July 17, 1937, No. 19855. Convention date, Aug. 13, 1936. Addition to 452,906. [Class 110 (ii)] Means for balancing axial thrusts on screw rotors a, b, c include collars e,f, g on the spindles as in the parent Specification, and a chamber h<1> containing fluid under pressure to balance the thrust on the rotors from the delivery chamber h (in the case of a pump). Fluid enters the pump through a suction chamber s. Passages o, l permit pressure fluid to pass from grooves r in the upper bearings to the space p and lower grooves r to the chamber h<1>. The upward pressure may also balance, in part or wholly, the weights of the rotors. The bearings are lubricated by the fluid being pumped. External pipes may replace the passages o, l. The chamber h<1> may be formed in the casing cover c. The invention is applicable to pumps having two, or more than three rotors. Rotor spindles may be coupled by spur wheels.
