Stuffing - boxes, substitutes f o r ; boxes; draining. - Shaft packing, applicable for centrifugal pumps, comp r i s e s labyrinth packing associated with an ordinary stuffing - box. The labyrinth packing may consist of axial ribs s co-operating with grooves in a ring d, or the bore of the ring d may be grooved to intermesh with collars on the shaft. The ring d is carried in a ring e, which screws into the pump casing and is locked by a pin g. The stuffing-box is formed in a cover h, preferably formed in halves, and secured to the pump casing. The intermediate space r is drained by a pipe. m.
