Abstract

476,014. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. March 22, 1937, No. 8406. Convention date, May 12, 1936. [Class 7 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A diaphragm accelerating-pump for a carburetter is provided with two diaphragms 9, 10, rigidly connected by a spacing member 11. The diaphragms may be of different materials. Leakage to the space between the diaphragms escapes by a duct 20. The pump is primarily intended for enriching the petrol mixture in an engine intake-pipe 1 on sudden opening of the throttle 3. The righthand side of the diaphragms is connected by a passage 15, with check-valve 16, to the float-chamber 6, which supplies the jet 5. The petrol is discharged through a calibrated orifice 19, check-valve. 17 and pipe 18 to the atmospheric side of the throttle-valve 3. The left-hand side of the diaphragms is exposed, through a pipe 21, to the vacuum on the engine side of the throttle 3,. which effects the suction stroke of the pump. The discharge stroke is effected by a spring 22. The diaphragm 9 may carry a valve 23 for closing the passage 18.
