473,620. Elastic valves. HUGHES, H. S. April 16, 1936, No. 10998. [Class 135] In a tap, bibcock, stopcock, faucet, globe, or pillar cock, or the like of the kind having a cylindrical rubber or like valve member 30 arranged to close an axial orifice 16 and subsequently, by lateral expansion of the rubber, the lateral orifice to the spout 14, the valve member is fixed to a jumper 29, 28 which is held rotatably in the screw-down operating-spindle 21 by a setscrew 34. To enable the operating-fluid to assist in the expansion of the valve member, the latter may be formed on its lower face with a hemispherical, cylindrical, or other recess of diameter nearly equal to that of the orifice 16. The member 30 may enter a cup in the diaphragm 18 at the bottom of which lies the valve seat, and an annular recess may be provided between the outer edge of the seat and the inner surface of the cup.
