Abstract

496,724. Lift valves. VALENTE, A. June 1, 1937, No. 15246. [Class 135] In a lift valve of the kind in which a spring 5 is interposed between the valve closure member 23 and its control member 6, and also in Which the valve member is positively rotated by the control member after seating, the closure member and the control member are coupled together so that after the former has been sufficiently retracted in opening the valve, the two members become free for relative rotation. Fig. 1 shows a tap 7 with a screwed spindle 6 having at its lower end a flange 28 with apertures 21 which engage with slant-ended lugs 22 on the valve member 23 after the latter has seated. A ratchet-like connection is thus formed which ensures that the position of the valve member relative to the control member and the valve seat changes from time to time. The valve member 16, Fig. 3, is operated by a screwed nozzle 6a having a transverse bar 13 which engages opposed notches 14 in the tubular extension of the valve member 16 after it has seated and the bar 13 begins to stress the spring 5. The valve member is guided in the body of the faucet by integral fins 25. A valve member similar to that in Fig. 1 is also shown in a screw nozzle type of faucet. The valve member may be fiat, conical, conoidal or part spherical and made of brass, bronze, or stainless steel, whilst the seat may be of anti-friction metal. Yielding materials such as leather, rubber or fibre may be used in some cases.
