Abstract
472,056. Microphones. BRAUNMUHL, H. J. VON, and WEBER, W. March 24, 1936, No. 8810. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1935. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 5, 1936.] [Class 40 (iv)] A directional condenser microphone has mechanically similar diaphragms c, d located adjacent opposite faces of a perforated electrode member b. The diaphragm c is electrically conducting whilst the diaphragm d is electrically inoperative. The electrode is formed with recesses e which are not open at both ends in addition to the perforations a. The distance between the diaphragms and the electrode and the size and disposition of the perforations are so arranged that the restraint to the movement of the diaphragms is mainly frictional, and the diameter of the microphone is approximately equal to half the wave length of the highest frequency to be transmitted. In a modification, Fig. 7, the microphone is provided with a ring f of gauze which is less permeable to sounds of low frequency than to those of the middle and upper portions of the frequency range.
