Abstract

300,744. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., Young, A. P., and Hutt, J. Sept. 22, 1927. Diaphragms. - In order that purely axial movement may be ensured, a loud-speaker diaphragm 1 of the conical type is attached at its outer edge to a flexible ring 2 formed with overlapping staggered slots 3, Fig. 1. The ring 2 is preferably mounted in an aperture in a sounding- board 7, and its edges are clamped between rings 4 which may be extended inwardly to cover the slots 3, the space between the ring 2 and rings 4 being packed with rubber tubing or other soft material in order to prevent leakage of air. Alternatively, the sounding-board 7 may overlap the ring 2. At its inner edge the diaphragm may be attached to a plate 5 perforated at 6 as described in Specification 269,804. According to the Provisional Specification the ring 2 and disc 5 may be made of fibre and the space within the flanges 8 may be packed with cotton wool. Specification 231,421 also is referred to.
