Abstract

471,174. Two-stroke engines; cylinders. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 28, 1935, No. 33006. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1934. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine, towards the end of, or after, the period of main scavenging, an additional scavenging stream is admitted by ports e<1>, directed, without rotation, towards the peripheral edge of the cylinder head, where eddies W of dead gas tend to collect. The main scavenging stream enters by ports d which may be radial or tungential, and be transverse or upwardly inclined ; it may be forced in by a pump or induced by the mass exit of the exhaust gas, the pump being only used at low speed. The additional stream is supplied at higher pressure, either by a separate pump or by a higher pressure stage of the same pump, which may be coaxial with and connected to a rotary valve f, controlling the closure of the auxiliary ports. In a mixture engine, rich mixture may be admitted through the additional ports e', air only being admitted through the main ports d. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also additional scavenging ports in the head or at the periphery of the combustion chamber arranged axially, radially or tangentially. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
