Abstract
467,942. Variable speed gearing. LOTS, F., and NAU, A. May 16, 1936, No. 13970. Convention date, May 16, 1935. [Class 80 (ii)] Radially-adjustable wheels a, on a carrier b, engage and form the sole support for an annulus d, comprising an extensible chain or steel band d, and one of the wheels a is connected by a universally-jointed shaft f to a driven shaft g. Either the gear-carrier b or the extensible band d constitutes the driving member whilst the other is held fixed. As shown, the band d is secured at one end to a rocking-member h, mounted on a fixed pivot, its other end passing through the rocking- member and being connected to a tensioning spring or mass. Alternatively the free end of the band may be positively interconnected with the control for the wheels a, throu gh levers, or bevel, spur or worm gearing, or feed pawls.
