353,150. Variable speed gearing. TSCHERNE, A., 22, Kronenstrasse, Rorschach, Switzerland. May 22, 1930, No. 15787. Convention date, Oct. 3, 1929. [Class 80 (ii).] Variable-speed gearing comprises a bevel epicyclic train 2, 3, 14, in which the planet carrier 5 is driven through roller and disc variable gearing 9, 10. The sliding roller 10 is keyed on a sleeve 1, which may be the driving element, and carries the pinion 2. The disc 9 carries a bevel wheel 7 in mesh with a wheel 6 of twice the diameter on the carrier 5. A shaft 4, which, alternatively, may be the driving member, is secured to the carrier 5 as shown. When the shaft 4 is rotated with the roller 10 in the position shown the shaft 1 and pinion 2 rotate at twice the speed, the pinion 14 and secondary shaft 16 remaining stationary. If the roller be moved to the left the shaft 16 is rotated with continuously increasing speed.
