[Class 78 (iv)] A skip hoist in which the hoisting cable or a cable sus. pended from the skip to main. tain the moving masses approximately constant, is connected elastically to the skip frame and an auxiliary device is provided for such a purpose as raising and lowering an anti-breakage flap is characterized by the provision of an energy-converter, such as a piston and cylinder device, which is operated by relative movement between the connecting gear of the cable and the skip frame and which supplies the energy for operating the auxiliary device. In the embodiment shown, a cable 9 is suspended from a beam 10 supported on the skip by springs 11. Each time the skip is raised or accelerated or retarded the resulting relative movement between the cable and skip effects movement of the piston 12 of an air-compressor 13 whereby a pressure is built-up in pipes 14, 17 to raise a piston 19 in a cylinder 18 and hold an antibreakage flap 22 in its operative position. When the skip is loaded, it is depressed by the charge relative to the cable 3, the skip being connected to a beam 5 on the cable through a rod 7 and spring 8. This movement causes an arm 23 to adjust a cock 16 so that communication with the pipe 14 is interrupted and the pipe 17 communicates with the atmosphere. The piston 19 now moves downwardly and the plate 22 falls, the charge falling into the bottom of the skip. When the skip is emptied, the spring 8 gradually expands and the arm 23 returns the cock to a position in which communication between the pipes 14, 17 is restored. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subject-matter of Specification 467,331. This does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
