Abstract

463,066. Linkwork for conveying rotary motion; universal joints. BURN, L. Sept. 21, 1935, No. 26211. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii)] A coupling for transmitting drive between the ends of two eccentric rotatable shafts or the like 10, 11 comprises connecting links 17, each link being of length equal to the eccentricity and pivoted to one shaft at 18 and to the other at a point 19, which is as far from the axis of shaft 11 as 18 is from the axis of shaft 10. As shown, the coupling allows universal movement, the shafts carrying discs 12, 13 with spherical-ended projections to engage the ends of the links 17. Each link 17 is provided with a spring washer 23 to allow for slight changes in the distances between the spherical projections during drive. In a modification, for parallel shafts which are only slightly out of alignment, each link takes the form of boss with eccentric journals, which engage holes in flanges on the shaft ends.
