Abstract

449,755. Collapsable shelters. WILLIAMS, D. H., 19, Warton Terrace, Bootle, Liverpool. Dec. 28, 1934, No. 37123. [Class 20 (i)] A sun and storm shelter, hangar, pavilion, or like structure, comprises inner and outer frameworks collapsable from one end by means of trellis-link mechanism operatively connected to the frameworks. The frameworks are formed of channel-section arched members D interconnected by trellis-link gears Ax spaced apart, the link gears having rollersliding connections C with the frame members which are provided with rollers running on separate tracks on each side of the structure. The inner framework mav be covered with light fabric to act as a sun shelter while the outer framework is covered by a heavier waterproof material to act as a storm shelter. Both frameworks may be provided with roofs formed of collapsable hinged panels M carried by levers T hinged to the framework members, and similar collapsable panelling may also be provided at the sides of the outer framework. The short arms of the levers T carry angle-iron facings for the panels, and the levers T and facings are rubber-covered to form sealing joints when pressed against the framework members. The structures are adapted to be operated by means of rope gearing G operated from a shaft I disposed with driving gears and motors inside a control room at one end of the structure, the ropes passing round pulleys F carried by a fixed framework member O disposed at a distance from the control room.
