Abstract
418,239. Gate &c. fastenings. HOSKER, J., Woodside, Dean Road, Handforth, Cheshire. June 7, 1933, No. 16322. [Class 44.] A bolt of inverted T-form, of which the head b forms the bolt proper, is pivoted by the free end of the stem b on a stud c which can be turned from the other side of the gate by a handle e. The arm b<1> has a square hole to fit on a square part of the stud c which is held in a bracket d by washers c<1>, c<2> and its riveted end ; the handle e which is held in a bracket d<1> by loose and fixed washers e2, e<3> has a square spindle e<1> engaging a squared recess c<3> in the stud. The bolt is guided in staple loops a<1> and moves to the fastened position, in which it engages behind an inclined striking plate f, under the action of gravity which may be increased by making the lever handle e horizontal or supplemented by a spring or weight associated with the handle. The bolt may be provided with an operating knob b2 and to render it reversible, both ends may be bevelled or rounded as at b<3>. A catch may be provided to hold the bolt in the engaged or disengaged position.
