Abstract

399,939. Friction clutches. CHANCE BROS. & CO., Ltd. and SPAINK, J. H. ABBINK-, Glass Works, Smethwick, Birmingham. June 22, 1932, No. 17620. [Class 80 (ii).] In an electromagnetic friction clutch wherein one or each of the friction discs a, b carries an exciting winding f, one or each of the discs a, b is provided with segmental peripheral recesses l in which are mounted segmental friction pieces k, m, so as to be radially removable without disturbing the main parts of the clutch. The ends n of the recesses l take the circumferential driving stress of the friction segments k, m, which are secured to the disc a by radial screws p. The segments are axially adjusted by screws o enclosed in a casing q and the friction material k on each of them may be continuous, as shown, or in the form of inset studs. The disc b is mounted on an annular spring-plate b<2> and the winding f is energized through slip-rings g, h. The Provisional Specification states also that the ends n of the recesses l may be omitted, the ends of the friction segments then directly abutting on each other.
