892,032. Friction clutches. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Nov. 30, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 40683/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups XXXIV and XXXV] The pole structure of an electromagneticallyoperated disc clutch or brake comprises interengaging annular members 6, 7 with radial flanges adjacent the discs 8, 9 shaped to form interfitting lugs 12, 13 constituting a circumferential series of polepieces of alternating polarity. The lugs may, as shown, be integral with the ring portions 6, 7, or may be separate lugs secured thereto, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Gaps 18, 19, 20 are provided between the poles and these may be filled with non-magnetic material. One set of friction discs, e.g. the discs 8 secured to the member 6 by lugs 23, are formed with slots 30, Fig. 4, in longitudinal alignment with the gaps 18, 19.
