Abstract
358,238. Friction clutches. AST, H., 30, Wattgasse, Vienna. Sept. 17, 1930, No. 27741. [Class 80 (ii).] In order to reduce the diameter of electromagnetic plate clutches and facilitate dismantling without disturbing the coupled shafts, the magnet bodv A, detachably secured to and centred on a disc C on one shaft and carrying, by a ring N and spring bolt P, the slidable armature B, is disposed between the aligned shafts, one series of plates E<1> . . E<4> engaging the part A and the other series F<1>, F<2>, F3 a drum G detachably secured to a disc D on the other shaft. The drum G is divided into halves g<1>, g<2>, which can slide oppositely to permit lateral withdrawal of the clutch parts. The armature B acts on the plates through the non-magnetic ring N and the driving-grooves on the part A have non- magnetic linings a to reduce magnetic leakage. To cool the winding and plates, ventilating-ducts R, S, T are provided respectively in the parts A, B, C, together with radial ducts in the plates.
