Abstract

373,238. Starting oil engines. DUFF, W., 12, Willets Way, Petts Wood, Kent. Nov. 21, 1930, No. 35096. [Class i (v).] According to load conditions an engine may operate on carburetted air or by the direct injection of a heavy fuel ; at starting or when running light a volatile fuel is supplied to an induction pipe 21 by a carburetter 18, the mixture being controlled by a throttle 17 which is inter-connected with a lever 9 having cam faces 10, 11 which engage an air valve 6 and a fuel injector 7 as the throttle is closed to shut off the carburetter. The cam faces 10, 11 may be separately adjusted. An electric ignition device 5 is employed when running on light fuel and continues to operate during running on the heavy fuel which is ignited by the heat of compression ; the engine may function with a compression ratio of 4À1.
