Abstract

370,701. Pocketknives. COLVER, F. B. and WOSTENHOLM & SON, Ltd., G., Washington Works, Wellington Street, Sheffield. May 14, 1931, No. 14224. [Class 30.] A scale of a pocket-knife is slotted and has pressed laterally from it a spring tongue 20 formed as a detent which locks the blade or other tool in the open position by engaging a notch 21 in the fore edge of the blade tang and can be pushed sidewise by means of a shaped finger-piece 18 on it to unlock the blade. The detent may be caused to lock the blade also in the closed position by making the tang symmetrical and placing the blade pivot equidistant from its fore and rear edges instead of nearer its fore edge. The tongue 20 is preferably formed on an intermediate brass or tempered steel scale 17 separating the two blades 14, 16. A series of detent surfaces may be formed in the tongue and tang. The bladeengaging end of the inner edge of the tongue 20 corresponds to the taper of the tang, beyond which the inner edge is approximately parallel to the finger-pieces. The usual blade spring is provided and the blade has a screwdriver end.
