636,803. Pocket knives. KOHN, K. A. May 4, 1948, No. 12239. [Class 30] [Also in Group XXIII] A handle for a multiple tool assembly which may include a knife blade comprises a tubular outer housing 1 adapted to receive the tool blades 4 which are pivotally mounted between a pair of plates 6 of segmental cross section which form an inner housing slidable from the outer housing to an extended position in which a required blade may be opened to its operative position. The forward end of the housing 1 is provided with flat portions 10 such that when the inner housing is retracted within the outer housing the inner surfaces of said flat portions may engage the rear edges of an opened blade to hold it in a longitudinally disposed operative position, Fig. 2, or the end faces of said flat portions may engage within notches 12 formed in the rear edge portion of a blade to hold it in a transversely disposed operative position, Fig. 4. A spring 11 secured to the inner end of the inner housing provides frictional engagement with the outer housing, prevents complete removal of the inner housing by abutment with shoulders 9 and, as shown, extends rearwardly beyond the inner housing to form a resilient thrust-absorbing means.
