Abstract

917,294. Knives. LEE POH LEONG. April 20, 1961 [May 6, 1960], No. 16193/60. Class 30. A rubber tapping-knife comprises a V- section blade 24 detachably mounted on a V- section blade-holder 13 by sliding engagement in grooves 17, 20 formed by flanges 10, 19 overlying the arms of the blade-holder. The flange 16 is integral with the free end of the arm 15 of the blade-holder and the groove 20 is formed by the edge 19 of a plate 18 slidably adjustable on the stem 12 by a screw 23. The blade (Fig. 3) is bent up from toughened steel and has a tapered head 27 with a cutting edge 28 and a rear wall 29 abutting, in the assembled position, the blade-holder which has projections 34, 34a overlying the head of the blade to provide a flush fit. In modifications an integral part of the stem overlies the arm 14 of the blade-holder to form one of the blade-receiving grooves, the blade-holder is slidable in a slot in the stem and adjustable by a screw mounted on the stem, and the blade and blade-holder are apertured to receive a spring-urged locking pin secured to the stem and having a tag for finger operation. According to the Provisional Specification the blade and blade-holder are approximately U section, the stem is laterally bent, a blade is inserted at each end of the holder or has two cutting edges, and the axis of curvature of the holder is inclined to the axis of the handle.
