Abstract

354,111. Bowden mechanism. AMALGAMATED CARBURETTERS, Ltd. and TISDELL, T. A., Holford Works, Holford Drive, Perry Barr, Birmingham. Oct. 7, 1930, No. 29990. [Class 80 (iii).] A solid end-piece 2 of a handle-bar is formed with a groove 3 in which the terminal block 7 of the cable 8 moves. The abutment block 5 of the sheath 6 is fixed or secured adjustably in the groove. A projection 9 on the block 7 engages a helical slot 10 in a twisting sleeve 11 adapted to be mounted on the piece 2. The block 5 may also have a projection 18 adapted to engage a second slot 19 in the sleeve to increase the relative motion of the blocks. Alternatively the groove may be formed by recessing the handle bar itself. In a modified construction, Fig. 4, the abutment 5 has lateral lugs which engage a lateral slot 20. To allow of adjustment of the angular freedom of the sleeve 11 a recess 21, 22 is formed at one end of the piece 2 to house a wedge-shaped block 23 of hard rubber or the like. By turning a screw 24 the block is moved radially to regulate the frictional resistance to movement of the sleeve. Specification 352,334, [Group XXXI], is referred to.
