Control mechanism for a Bowden wire of the type which is operated by a rotatable grip on the handle-bar of a cycle is mounted outside the handle-bar itself. A sleeve A on which the grip is fixed is rotatably held on the handle-bar B, or an extension thereof, by a split sleeve D having projections D<3>. The sleeve A also has a channel housing F for a plunger G, to which is attached the Bowden-wire J and a lug L which holds the wire covering K. Longitudinal movement is imparted to the plunger G through a pin H which projects into a helical or other slot C in the sleeve A.
