Abstract
343,755. Motor vehicle driving-gear. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES., Unterturkheim, Stuttgart, Germany. Feb. 26, 1930, No. 6439. Convention date, April 30, 1929. [Class 79 (ii).] Comprises bevel driving-gear for two or more axles connected by jointed intermediate shafts in which a bevel wheel b on the propeller shaft a meshes with two bevel wheels c, d on the forward axle f, g, one of the bevel wheels driving the forward axle through differential gear while both bevel wheels mesh with a fourth bevel wheel h driving a rear axle s, characterized in that the said differential gear e is located in the axis of the forward axle and is disposed to one side of the propeller shaft. The bevel wheel c drives the differential gear e, and the bevel wheel d is loose on the half axle f. The bevel wheel h is fixed on a short shaft i driving the rear axle through universal joints n, m and a shaft m<1>. The shaft i is carried in bearings k, l, the bearing k being situated between the bevel wheels c, d. It is stated that the lateral disposition of the differential gears e, r permits the universal joints n, m to be placed farther apart and thus reduces the angular deflection of these joints during working.
