Compound or articulated road vehicles.-In a six-wheeled tractor and trailer combination, two motors, one on each vehicle, are employed and two axles are driven. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the engines 1, 2 on the tractor and trailer respectively, both transmit power by longitudinal shafts to the middle pair of wheels shown in section in Figs. 3 and 4. The longitudinal shafts both drive through bevel gearing on to a vertical shaft 12 in which may be incorporated a differential gear 33 which divides the power received from the trailer motor 2 between the middle pair of wheels and the rear wheels. The rear axle of the trailer is driven through a longitudinal shaft from the gearing on the middle axle.
