Discharging and feeding devices for endless-belt conveyers and elevators; driving-gear.-A stream of newspapers 1 normally conveyed in a vertically upward path between sets of wire belts is diverted into a horizontal path between belts 9, 10 when a pivoted member 16 and a set of belts 17 are moved from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2. There is a gap in the belting on the right hand side of the vertical path between the pulleys 8a, 7 and in this gap the newspapers are supported at one side by the member 16 and a set of belts 15 passing round pulleys 8<b>, 13b. The belts 17 pass round pulleys 6<c>, 18, the latter of which is mounted at one end of a lever 19 pivoted at 20. The member 16 and lever 19 are moved simultaneously to and from the normal and diverting positions by a handle 23 and links 25, 28. Springs 30, 32 are provided yieldably to hold the member 16 and belts 17 against the stream of neswpapers. The pulley 12<a> around which passes the belt 9 is driven from the pulley 38 and the latter is driven from the shaft of the pulley 6<c> only when a clutch has been actuated by a cam 42 during the movement of the handle 23 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2.
