Abstract

503,840. Endless-belt elevators. FOX, J. P., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd.' Oct. 9, 1937, No. 27509. [Class 78 (i)] Elevator means for biscuits or like articles comprises a feeding conveyer and a take-off conveyer, one or both of which are inclined, with a rotary transfer device operating between them in an approximately horizontal plane. Conveyers with rotary transfer devices between them may be arranged in flights, e.g. for elevating biscuits from an oven on one floor to a stacking machine on a floor above, but the invention may also be applied for conveying articles on one floor only, e.g. for conveying biscuits from an oven, through an intermediate elevated cooling stage, to a stacker adjacent the oven. As shown, an oven band A<3> discharges on to an inclined belt conveyer a whence the biscuits are transferred by an arcuate wire mesh band conveyer c terminating in conical nosings c<1> to a second inclined conveyer d, and again by a further arcuate band e to a further inclined conveyer f. The biscuits are finally taken from conveyer f by an arcuate conveyer h and discharged on to the feed conveyer i of a stacking machine B on the floor above the oven A. The inclined flights a, d, and f are arranged in vertical planes which may be parallel, or slightly inclined to one another so that the flights overlap at their ends. The biscuits are removed from the oven band A<3> by a stripper plate b mounted on arms b<1> of levers b<2> pivoted at b<5>. The levers also carry side guide plates b<4>, and are adjustable by screws b<3>. The upper end of each inclined flight of belting passes round a plate a<4> which is parallel to the terminal roller as at its inner end, but canted into parallelism with the conical nosing of the arcuate transfer conveyer at its free end. Instead of an arcuate band conveyer, a rotary disc j<1>, Fig. 8, may be employed as a transfer device. A knife edge k<2> and a rotary brush l or, alternatively, the .means described in Specifications 428,775 and 466,747 may be provided to assist the biscuits in mounting the succeeding flight k<1> of belting. In Fig. 10, the rotary disc j<2> is perforated or of wire mesh, and air from a nozzle m lifts the biscuits into contact with a short auxiliary conveyer n which transfers them to the flight k<1> as described in Specification 492,685.
