660,186. Endless-belt conveyers. NYEBOE & NISSEN AKTIESELSKABET, and ELLITSGAARD, C. M. Sept. 13, 1949. No. 23557/49. Class 78 (i). In means for positioning articles, e.g. bottles or tins, upon a conveyer belt of the kind in which the articles pass between two converging guides, one or each of the guides comprises a mechanism for imparting a movement, preferably a retrograde one, to any adjacent article which might obstruct the passage. Bottles passing down a shoot 2 on to conveyer belts 3, 4 are directed by guides 5, 6 into a narrowing path 9 between an adjustable guard 10 and an endless chain 16 driven in the direction of the arrows. Each chain link comprises a web plate 21 which is guided in grooves 22, 23 in a channel-shaped member 24 bolted to the framework. Teeth 26 provided on some of the links are normally shrouded by plates 27, 28 having lugs 29, 30 which are attached to bell-crank levers 33 34. These levers are coupled by a link 35 which is itself connected by a spring 36 to a plate 37 carried by the bell-crank 34. When bottles accumulate in the path 9, pressure is exerted on the edges of the plates 27, 28 and they are forced backwards against the resistance of the spring 36 to uncover the teeth 26. The engagement of the teeth with the bottles forces them backwards and removes the obstruction. The guard 10 is pivoted at 11 and is acted on by a spring 15.
