Abstract

723,380. Endless belt conveyers and elevators. BEACH, E. F. Aug. 6,1953 [Aug. 6, 1952], No. 19811/52. Class 78 (1). Means for transporting bottles or other articles of different sizes between places at different levels, comprises a pair of oppositelydisposed endless conveyer belts arranged so that adjacent faces thereof both move vertically downwards and are spaced apart at a distance less than the thickness of the smallest articles to be conveyed, guiding rollers disposed in relatively staggered position in operative relationship with the outer sides of the working portions of said belts, a subsidiary endless belt conveyer arranged to receive articles delivered at the base of the first-mentioned conveyer belts and to convey the same therefrom in a horizontal direction to desired receptacles, and driving means common to the vertical and horizontal conveyers. Fig. 1 shows the application to apparatus for removing empty bottles from the bar of a public house to a cellar. Conveyer belts 13, 14 extend downwardly from a shoot 12 provided in a shelf 10 behind the bar counter 11 to a belt conveyer 24 in the cellar. The belts 13, 14 are guided over rollers 18, 19, 20 and tensioning rollers 22, 23, and, except at the flared opening 17, are spaced apart a distance less than the width of the smallest bottle in use. Bars 26, 26 are disposed at increasing heights above the conveyer 24 to effect automatic sorting of the bottles into sizes in appropriate receptacles along the sides of the conveyer. A V- shaped deflector 261 prevents the bottles passing over the end of the conveyer. The belts are all driven from an electric motor 27 by a belt 28, the gearing preferably being arranged so that the conveyer 24 is driven faster than the belts 13, 14.
