Valve gear; regulating.- In tensioning - arrangements for the chain drive of the cam shaft, disturbance in the, timing of the shaft is avoided by tightening both sides of the chain. Fig. 1 shows the cam shaft C driven by helical gearing L, M and by chain gearing D which is provided with a pair of tightening - pulleys H, J carried by a lever G adjustable by a screw K. The pulleys H, J are so adjusted in slots, g<2>, g<3> in the lever G that the timing of the cams is not altered when the chain is tightened. On the other hand, the cam shaft may be adjusted angularly to vary the timing, by altering the position of the pulleys H, J in their slots.
