Abstract

327,646. Sunbeam Motor Car Co., Ltd., Coatalen, L., and Attvrood, S. H. June 28, 1929. Regulating; valve gear.-In means for driving a pair of cam shafts, two independently adjustable sets of epicyclic gearing are provided, one serving to vary the phase relationship between the crank shaft and the cam shafts, and the other between the two cam shafts themselves,. Fig. 2 shows two overhead cam shafts a, b connected together by epicyclic gearing c, d, f, g, the shaft b being driven by bevel gearing m, n from a vertical shaft o. which is driven by bevel gearing p, q from an intermediate shaft r connected by epicyclic gearing t, u, v, w to the crank shaft s. The link mechanisms h, i, j and x, y, z carrying the epicyclin gear wheels are adjustable by hand wheels l and z respectively, or by a governor. One cam shaft actuates the air-inlet valves, and the other the exhaust valve, while the fuelinjection valve may be actuated by levers cooperating with both cam shafts.
