Blocks and shoes acting on drums. - In a vehicle brake of the kind comprising a set of movable shoes adapted to be forced against the brake drum by the drag action of the drum and a shoe pivoted at a fixed point particularly adapted for braking in reverse running, the set of movable shoes is arranged to exert its reaction upon the reverse shoe in such a manner as to apply this shoe to the drum. As shown, the shoe 4 provided particularly for braking in reverse running is mounted on a fixed pivot 5 and a pair of shoes 2, 3 connected by a floating pivot 8 are anchored on the shoe 4 by a.pivot.9 so disposed usually at a radial distance from the centre of the drum less than that of the pivot 5, that the reaction of the shoes 2, 3 on the shoe 4 when the drum is rotating in the direction for forward running indicated by the arrow co-operates with. the cam 7 to apply the shoe 4 to the drum. The shoe 3 may be of U-shaped cross-section to embrace the shoe 4 and be provided with a hole 10, to clear the pivot 5.
