Blocks acting on drums.-In internal expanding brakes comprising two shoes pivoted at one end and engaged by a cam at the other, each shoe comprises two or more hinged sections, and one shoe c<2>, c<21> is made longer than the other c<1>, c<11>. This arrangement is advantageous for a brake the application of which is assisted or effected bv a servo-mechanism during forward travel only, the longer shoe being so disposed as to be the more effective during backward movement of the vehicle. The expanding-cam f may, as shown, be mounted on a fixed spindle f<1> and be connected to the shoes by links c<15>, c<25> or the cam spindle may be mounted on plates secured to the section c<11>, the link c<25> only being used, so that the cam floats with the shoe on which it is mounted. In the latter case the pivot for theshoes is located as near the ground as possible to minimise the strain on the wheel bearings.
