Abstract

Springs, arrangement of; guiding vertical play. -Relates to spring suspensions for vehicles in which each road wheel is connected to the main portion of the vehicle by a spring-controlled artioulated parallelogram arranged in a vertical plane. The horizontal links of the paralleogram are arranged above and below the axle line of the wheels, and thin ends are pivoted respectively to a vertical arm carried by the wheel and to the differential or steering-gear casing at points above and below the axle line, the spring or springs being mounted intermediate to the horizontal links. As shown in Fig. 1, the lefthand portion of which represents a rear suspension and the right-hand portion a front suspension, vertical members a, b carrying the wheel axles are connected respectively by pairs of parallel links c<1>, d<1> and c, d to the differential gear casing x and steering-gear casing y, which are secured to a single central beam replacing the usual frame. The spring control comprises one or more laminated springs e mounted above the axle-line of the wheels, secured to the casing x or y, and pivoted at the ends to the arms a or b. The springs e may be replaced by helical compression or tension springs arranged diagonally.
