Abstract

332,060. Guy, S. S. July 19, 1929. Steering-gear; intermediate connections for deflectable axle-ends.-In motor vehicles having more than one front axle the side steering rods for the stub axles are operated at different radii from the arm of the steering box so that the wheels are deflected to different extents. Each rod is arranged to rock about an axis coincident, or nearly so, with the axis of the adjacent spring anchorage, in order that the play of the springs may not affect the steering or set up wheel wobble. In the construction shown the side steering rods c are. operated by levers e, e<1> and links d, d<1> connected at different radii to an arm b taking the place of the usual drop arm of the steering-gear box. The operated end of each of the rods c is in close proximity to the anchorage on the frame brackets f of the suspension springs h.
