Abstract

Mounting reserve tyres and wheels on vehicles.-The tyre e of a spare wheel &c. is gripped by a curved plate member b on a rod c, which, under the action of a lever o and cams p or a link mechanism, slides in a sleeve d on a base a secured to the side &c. of a motor-car, side-car, &c. The lever o is pivoted at n to a lug m on the rod c, the sleeve d being slotted for the passage of the lug m. The cams p bear against lugs q on either side of the sleeve d. The rod c and member b are locked and unlocked by a spindle r, which is formed with a flat s and is rotated by a key and lock mechanism. The member b is carried by a removable sleeve g, which is adjusted along the rod c, according to the size of the tyre e, by means of a threaded bolt h, the head j of which is formed with a flat face coacting with a flat-walled recess in the sleeve g to prevent relative movement after adjustment.
