Mounting and securing spare tyres and wheels on vehicles.-In order to prevent the theft of a spare wheel, or of the tyre mounted thereon, the tyre is surrounded by two jaws 4, 5, which are adapted to be moved simultaneously in opposite directions towards and away from the spare wheel 1, and are locked against the rim 7 or other rigid part, of the wheel, which is secured, for example, by bolts 3 to a plate 2. The jaws 4, 5 may be slidably mounted in a guide 6, and may be actuated by the opposite threads of a screw 9, which is rotatably mounted in a boss 10 and is actuated by a spanner engaging the end 11. The screw 9 is locked by a key-operated lock, the bolt of which enters notches 28. Specification 265,943 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification in which one of the jaws is rigidly secured to the body or running-board of the vehicle, and the other jaw is pivoted to a support on the running- board &c., the pivotal shaft being acted upon by a spring and provided with a shoulder or stop to be engaged by the bolt of a lock. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
