Separating by passing over or through graduated apertures; feeding articles from shoots. - Apparatus for grading fruit of oval form comprises two endless bands 1, 2 arranged so as to form an open bottom trough of V-section, the inner adjacent sides of which are moving in the same direction and diverge from one another. The bands are mounted on pairs of rollers 5, 6 inclined to each other and driven in opposite directions by intergeared bevel wheels 18 and a hand or power driven shaft 20. The fruits are fed singly from a shoot 23 by an endless conveyer 24 with trays 25 which present them in correct position between the bands. Preferably studs 32 or other means are provided on the bands to hold the fruits in correct position during grading and the tension of the bands is maintained by mounting the rollers 5 on an adjustable plate 9. Shoots 31 receive the fruits as they drop between the bands at the positions where they are spaced apart sufficiently.
