164,698. Bopp & Reuther. June 11, 1920, [Convention date[. Disc apparatus; work-holders; cutting-edges, shaping.-Relates to a process and to devices for grinding turning-tools and planing-tools. The tool is of the section shown in Fig. 1, and its corners are ground back in planes 3 inclined to the axis of the steel, leaving at the centre a small truncated pyramid 4, Fig. 4. The edges are then rounded, as shown in Fig. 4, a part 5 of the pyramid being ground away during the rounding. The grinding is effected by rotating wheels, the tool being held in devices shown in Figs. 8 and 13. That shown in Fig. 8 consists of a base 9 and a sliding standard 10 with a stirrup-shaped opening 11 receiving a profiled block 12 and the tool 1, which is secured by screws 13 and is pressed up to the grinding-wheel by hand. Stops 15, 16 facilitate the adjustment of the tool and of the standard 10 respectively. Fig. 13 shows a similar device; the standard 19 is, however, set upon the base 17 by means of a circular guide-disc 20, so that the standard may be pushed along the base, and may also be rotated to facilitate the rounding of the edges.
