[Class 60] [Also in Group XXII] A machine for bevelling the circular edge of a work-piece comprises a work-table, workengaging means associated with the work-table and provided with oppositely-disposed conical members adapted to be rotated and to act upon a work-piece, rotatable work-clamping means mounted in a carrier which is movable so as to permit a work-piece in the clamping means to be presented to the work-engaging means, said work-engaging means being adjustable to permit adjustment of its conical members relative to the work-clamping means and a work-piece therein, and means on the carrier interengaging with the work clamping means for effecting rotation thereof. An embodiment for trimming the edge of the wooden end of a cask comprises oppositely-disposed conical cutters 13, 13 with one or more removable blades 14 or with integral teeth. The cutters are spaced by a ring 15 mounted by a ball-bearing on the cutter spindle 12, the latter being carried by a frame 17 vertically adjustable in the standard 10 by a screw 19 operated by a hand wheel 25. The work-holder comprises a lower plate 34 supported by a thrust bearing on a baseplate 26, the plate 34 being provided with a worm-wheel 38 meshing with a worm 39 on a hand-operated spindle 40 mounted in the baseplate 26. An upper plate 32 is rotatably carried on the lower end of a screw-down spindle 31, having hand levers 31a, threading into a nutbox 29 carried by a channel-section cross-head 28 mounted on vertical end pillars 27 secured to the box plate 26. The latter is movable towards the cutter spindle, by a rack 42 and a hand-operated pinion 43, to bring the work to bear on the ring 15 ; when one edge has been bevelled by one cutter, the cutter spindle is moved vertically and the other edge is bevelled by the other cutter. Instead of cutters, tools for grinding, buffing, glazing or polishing may be employed.
