As shown fastening a rail R on a wooden, concrete or metal sleeper T, the clip 30 spans a sleeper recess 22, and a member 60, engaging both clip legs, is held on an anchor bolt 50 by a nut 51, the required tension being determined by the thickness of an abutment washer 52. The clip base 33 seats on a flanged plate 24 on the sleeper shoulder, while the leg ends clamp the rail foot through bearing and insulating plates 36, 37. It is stated that the bolted holding-down means shown may be replaced by a fixed reaction member having a projecting head, and that a base plate may be interposed between the rail and sleeper.
