Abstract

1,044,884. Rail fastenings. JAMES MILLS Ltd. (EXECUTORS OF). March 12, 1965 [March 14, 1964; May 28, 1964], No. 10899/64 and 22027/64.Heading E1G. A resilient metal bar, forming the clamping portion of a rail fastening, has an intermediate portion 42 from the ends of which two pressure applying portions 44a, 44b extend in opposite directions, such that when the pressure portions bear respectively on the rail flange 22, or an insulator 32, and the rail base 39 the intermediate portion is stressed in torsion. The clamping bar 40 is driven into an elongated hole in an anchorage element 24 forming, at 29, an abutment for the rail and at 39 a bearing surface for the previous portion 44b. The ends of the portion 44a, 44b and the surface 39 are ramped to assist driving and the element 24 has means for casting in a concrete sleeper 21. In modification the angle between the surface 39 and the rail foot may be a right angle or less and the hole 33 may have a tongue to prevent the two legs of the intermediate portion 42 from touching. The bar may be of circular, oval or D section.
