Abstract

1304887 Attracted armature relays GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 19 May 1970 [21 May 1969] 24201/70 Heading H1N An electromagnetic relay has its electromagnet 20 in the form of a rectangular box with the coil 55 on a core 56 between two magnetic end plates 40, 42, each with a respective polepiece 41, 46 extending into the space between the plates 40, 42 with front faces 41, 43 engageable by an armature 26 on energization of the coil 55. The construction allows machine alignment of the faces 41, 43 and reduced armature travel about an axis external to the armature. The latter carries a lever arm 28 having portions 31 for actuation of contact sets 15 on the relay base 10. As shown, the armature has pivot pins 29 engaged in bearings 67A, 68A in a support 65 secured between the polepieces 41, 46, below a spacer plate 51 fixed to the rear faces 45, 47 of the polepieces and having a recess 75 which locates an armature biasing spring 70. The rear of the box is formed by a plate 51 secured to the rear edges of the plates 40, 42 and having an adjustable back stop 80 for engagement by the lever arm 28. A cover 12 is sealed to the base 10. Alternatively, a spring hinge (Fig. 7, not shown) may support and bias the armature.
