Abstract
1,271,267. Attracted armature relays. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. 4 June, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 28293/69. Heading H1N. An electromagnetic relay has its armature A mounted to leave a residual gap between the armature and one pole 42 of the electromagnet when the armature is in engagement with the other pole 36 of the electromagnet on energization of the relay and the armature is mounted by jewel bearings 59. The flat magnetic armature A has a curved end 46 shaped to correspond with the pole 36 and has a projection 47 at the other end which co-operates with a coil retaining plate 43 to limit pivotal movement of the armature away from its attracted position under the bias of a spring 25 secured to the relay header H. The armature pivot shaft 48 is fastened to the armature by a mounting plate 49 secured to the armature by depression spot welds on opposite sides of the pivot pin 48. The ends of the shaft 48 engage in the jewel bearings 59 which are mounted in plates 57, 58 which are spot-welded (such as at 64) to respective support legs 37, (38) of the electromagnet which fit in notches 16a, (16b), and are welded to the header H. Arms 53, 54 are welded to the plate 49 and each has a glass ball which engages a respective movable contact spring 20a, (20b) which co-operates with a respective pair of fixed contacts such as 21a, 22a forming a change-over contact set (Fig. 4, not shown). A sealed cover C is also welded to the header H.
