Abstract

125,917. Brown, J. H., and Mellor, G. A. Jan. 6, 1919. Vaporizers, external.-Comprises a carburettor in which the primary ai. and a preliminary mixture pass through U-tubes arranged in an exhaustheated casing. The casing A contains a series of U-tubes B<1> which open into two chambers C, D. One of the tubes is extended at both ends at E<1>, J, and a small quantity of air enters E' through ports E<2> and passes to the other end J. This end is surrounded by an annular fuel chamber H<1> which communicates with the atmosphere through a port H<5> and with the tube through ports J<1>, so that a rich mixture is drawn into the tube and passes upwards, escaping through ports J<2> and channels H<3>, past a suction-actuated valve H<4> into the chamber C. From this chamber the mixture passes through the U-tubes to the other chamber D where more air is admitted through a suction-actuated valve F<2> and ports F<3> controlled by a valve G. The final mixture is controlled by a throttle-valve (not shown). The valve G regulates the ports E<2> for the initial supply of air. The fuel valve may be operated by the throttle-valve or by the valve G; in the latter case, as the valve G opens, the fuel valve is first opened and then closed to a pre-determined minimum. A suction-actuated governor may control the throttle and fuel valves.
