Abstract

1,255,505. Spark gaps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 10 Feb., 1969 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 7019/69. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H2] In a lightening arrester generally as disclosed in Specification 1,254,934 the housing members A, B of the spark gap assemblies are die-cast from a mixture of aluminium oxide granules and a binding material, each spark gap assembly having an arcing chamber 27 which has a portion 2711 inclined to another portion 27<SP>1</SP>. The arrester is further provided with a coil for producing a magnetic field 28 to extinguish an arc, the arrangement being such that the field is generally perpendicular to an arc in the portion 27<SP>11</SP> of the arc chamber. The spark gap assemblies are mounted in a porcelain housing in contact with a non-linear resistor.
