Abstract

1,248,158. Doffing and donning. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP. 5 Aug., 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 39236/69. Heading DID. A bobbin holder arrangement, e.g. for grasping full and empty bobbins in a doffing and donning device of a spinning machine comprises means to resiliently mount the holding members. As shown empty bobbin grasping means 18 are mounted on a movable beam 14 and full bobbin grasping means 16 are mounted on a beam 22 carried by beam 14. Both graspers consist of inflatable elastic annuli 52, 82 selectively connected to a source of air pressure. Tube 50 carrying annulus 52 is carried by a U-shaped member 34 on a rod 38 which is supported by a head 30 have bevelled edges and being supported in holes 28 in a bar 24 carried on top of beam 22. A spring is positioned between member 34 and bar 24 so that the grasping device 16 is downwardly urged. If grasping device 16 is incorrectly aligned with the full bobbin onto which it is lowered it can pivot by virtue of spring 46 and the bevelled edges on head 30. If the full bobbin is misaligned when it is lowered onto a receiving peg the head is displaced upwards to contact a wire 108 and operate a stop motion. The empty bobbin grasper 18 is mounted in a similar fashion and is also provided with a stop motion which operates to stop the lowering of the empty bobbin if it is misaligned and becomes jammed on a spindle.
