Abstract

1398305 Servicing winding stations LEESONA CORP 2 June 1972 [4 June 1971 21 June 1971] 20731/72 Heading DID A tender 40 which patrols a series of winding stations for doffing a wound bobbin, donning an empty bobbin and reinitiating winding, or removing a partially wound bobbin carries a severing mechanism 164 for severing roving R fed into drafting assembly. 14. Twisted roving in the form of yarn is wound on a bobbin 20 through a traveller 30 on a ring rail 34. A roving clamp 120 is fixed to a portion 122 of a spinning frame, not shown, the clamp being normally open and retained in this position by overcentre mechanism including a leaf spring 160. The severing mechanism 164 includes a pivoted arm 166 carrying a scissor-like severing head 174 having fixed and movable blades. The arm 166 and movable blade are actuated by pneumatic cylinder 184 and 198 respectively. As tender 40 moves past each station a photocell is energized by a light beam reflected off a roving breaker to produce a servicing signal which when combined with a second signal from a second photocell 52 receiving a beam 54 normally reflected off yarn Y starts the work cycle of the tender 40, the second signal being produced by the absence of yarn. Alternatively, a fully wound package P may provide a signal on attaining a predetermined size.
